Joy of Painting!

Hey everyone!

Yesterday i took photos of my two latest creations... i also noticed i didn't post the last minis before these two but before showing all of them i have to write down some thoughts.

The time around the duke of bavaria was just plain awesome, i have to thank all my friends again for visiting us here in the good ol' schellingstreet! It was a great time and a lot of joy seeing you all again.
But it was also very exhausting and slowly i'm regaining all my energies and started painting again.

I hope you all had a great time at the Schellingstreet and we'll see you again!

I'm getting more and more into oil color for the basic groundwork as it is much more fun and more intuitive than the typical acrylic workflow... acrylics will not be replaced for the final detail work but oil is juuuuuuuust sooooooo much fun :)

So, now for the figures i painted....

I start with the oldest ones....

Grey Knight Terminator

 I painted this one pretty quick as a color scheme test for my upcoming army... after all it will be another color scheme but he was lots of fun :)

Strength of Nature

 I had the centaur on my desk and in my display for quite a long time, it is a pretty unique mini regarding the pose and execution of the sculpt, it's a bit of a challenge to find a interesting and nice looking view of this mini... on the base i was going a bit wild but after all it turned out pretty cool in the end (at least i think so :D )

The Last Request

The other part of the long time "centuar vs. barbarian" project.. as i cancelled the duel and made two seperate projects out of it i wanted to try out some new stuff... the spider webs are a little secret that will be revealed soon :) :) It won the special category price in montrouge and the first place at the paint it! contest ... so i'm pretty proud of it! The mini was a gift from the very cool club AFM Montrouge and it is one of the coolest fantasy miniatures i've ever seen and painted, although a very hard challenge.... After all, i hope you like it!

 Order 7-12: Execute Survivors

I painted this one during the workshop in Dillingen-Saar as a small project to get my head free of my current project... Roman found one of the DUST! boxes and i just liked the miniatures so i started painting :) ... aaaand i wanted to create a snow base (i don't like snow on bases in general :D ).... what do you think? :)

Nowhere to run to, baby!

Last but certainly not least comes this great figure from Pegaso...
This figure was a gift from my friends (especially Roman... THANKS MY MAN!) for my birthday last year and so i thought the time was right to paint him for the duke of bavaria where he won me a bronze in "Painting Master" :)
In the past i was doing Vietnam Reenactment and was really into the whole War story around nam so this theme really got me.... i hope i did justice to the figure by my paintjob.

I wanted to create a real "asshole" soldier.... i think i catched this expression pretty well with his face.
I hope you like it even if the chosen theme is not really beautiful.

I used lot of oil color techniques on this one and i really learned a lot from the wise words of Max the Maxican :)


Soooo, i hope you like the minis... i'm now getting back to my other projects, PEACE! :)

Gladiator "Thraex" finished...

"The time has come - fight with honor and die the same!"

During all projects for the Duke of Bavaria i also did finish my first 90 mm Figure, a Gladiator "Thraex" by Pegaso.

It really took a while to paint this guy to finish and i am thankful to all my friends for their hints and tips they showed me during the paintwork. I did not really concentrate on the historical correctness of the chosen colours, indeed i did choose to use the colours i love from the series "Spartacus - Blood and Sand" or "Spartacus - Gods of the Arena", a series i really enjoyed watching.

I did use a lot of paint on him and learned so much about painting with Oil colours. Now it is about time to start writing the big oil article. When the model came to an end i did reposition it again at the base with a more dynamical pose, like jumping into the fight as there is no running or hiding place it is best to be the first. This guy is going through his most epic moment in his life and i've tried to catch it. I am very happy about winning a silver medal in historical master at this years Duke of Bavaria with my display.  If you want to know more about the Gladiator class "Thraex" please follow this link to Wikipedia. I really have to admit that i love to paint on such large scaled miniatures, i can use a big brush and my eyes don't hurt of too small details - hehe, i am getting older maybe or maybe not :)

On Saturday morning, shorty before we travelled to Ingolstadt i was able to take some bad photos of the Arkvenger which i did finish on comission. There was way too much morning sun and the model did not fix into the light box and additional we were all very tired because of no sleep. So the photos are not the best. I will try to get some more final photos as there is still a Step by Step ahead of this model.

After my workbench is ready again after our Work Camp i already did start some new projects and start to finish old ones. Here are some Work in Progress photos of things out of the magic machine, still early Wip:

 I am slowly coming up to date with answering my emails - soon i'll be fully back on track, i ask a little more patience to those still waiting. The sea is calming finally and i am hurrying with my little canoe...

"The Rising" and "Custodia Mortis"

Just wanted to show you my new miniatures :) I finished them during the MassiveVoodoo-Bootcamp at Raffa�s place the last two weeks. I entered them at the Duke of Bavaria-Contest and won Gold in Fantasy Standard Painting. I Hope you like them. I want to thank the whole monkey crew for the advises and support, but especially Roman and Raffa for their efforts and paintence ;)

I was a bit in a hurry that is why the photos are not the best - it was really a cool experience to paint this bust for a second run - there is much to learn by studying a model - i hope you like here, sorry for the quick photos ...

Hombre Toro finished...

Hola!

Hombre Toro by Spherewars - what a model and chaotic mission i loaded upon myself - about 4 days and some additional night time have been needed to finish him in a quick pace during hardcore disciplined working days, but in the end he made it ready for the AFM Mountrouge in Paris.

I somehow transported this emptying myself from powers into the paintjob. I can not tell you how - but this vision i had of Hombre Toro makes him a fighter, a warrior, already beaten but still breathing until his last heartbeat and until the final moment he is kicking ass with everything he got.  His death won't matter to his nation as the war still rages on and he was just an unexperienced warrior of the Forest Tribe adding his death to a greater victory against the human race who wants to control the whole world. There are still many others of his nation and they will rise to be free, the old warriors are marching the land and the earth shakes beneath their weight. This young bull soon dies on a rainy day but he made sure that his enemies remember his fury and pride. Hope you like him...

Many thanks to Spherewars for creating such a great sculpt in my eyes. I will do him again as i already have 3 other visions in plan. The sculpt is really awesome, so dynamic and it really paints itself due pure joy. I also wanted to keep the base simple to enjoy the miniature itself with more attention. I did also focus to paint him i tragic and proud way, guess the intense zenithal light situation transports this athmosphere, at least this is what i've tried. 

I hope you like my version - i even did use my own hair on that bull lately. I am really looking forward to see many different visions on this wonderful sculpt. Ho! Ho! Ho! Pirates like to roll!!

Ho! Ho! Ho!

I finally finished a real long time project. I did start this model as a demonstration model during a painting class in Munich, Germany this early year and it turned out to be something really big as i really had my fun - c'mon Pirates are always fun as everyone wants to be a pirate or even is in his heart ... free and wildly roaming the oceans. I will tell a little bit more about the project itself after i have shown the photos and first i want to start off with a great pirate poem i found and which fits perfectly...

Pirates are friendly

Pirates are hearty
They�re bluff and they�re loud
They�ll always have fun
On their own or in crowds

Some have an eye patch
And some have a hook
In place of the hand
That a crocodile took

They�re usually friendly
Despite all your fears
But if you should cross them
They�ll cut off your ears

They�ll stamp on your fingers
Stick knives up your nose
Put ants in your trousers
And crabs on your toes

And then when they�re finished
And your spirits are low
It�s off to the edge of the ship you must go

Hands tied behind you
Eyes bound about
You�re prodded and pushed
By their jeers and their shouts

Tales of War, 28 mm

Now to some brainstorm about the project. 

Oh hell yeah it was fun and pain. No not really pain, in no moment it has been painful - it was always a pure joy to work on it. The waves took the most time and it still takes time to write the article about them, so please be patient. The pirate by Tales of War made me see this vision about a year ago. I saw the sculpt and knew there will be a boat, i had no idea that my Painting Class model could do this vision justice in the end. Here is a Work in Progress shot from during the class:

The ship was a model kit i did buy in a model kit store during a stay in Berlin. No idea which manufacturer that one was and in the end i did cut it to pieces. I did all place it on a socket by Sockelmacher.de. 

The little animals all around are from different manufacturers. five fish and one bird of the small animal set by Busch and 2 apes of Mantis Miniatures. The rest is made from bits and scratch build stuff i can't remember to tell you all. I did create a flag article some calm fouling article during the project. I've used McDonalds coffee wooden coffee sticks to do the planks and did cut them for some damage look and did use this crackle paint to achieve the old wood look.  I did take shots to write a big advanced water article, but as i told you some more time is needed for this. Ho! Ho! Ho! 

Really i had my fun at this project even it tooks it time - i can not really say how many hours i've spent on that one but i guess somewhat around 80+. I am really happy with the result on how my vision turned out and i hope you like him too. Joy of Painting X

Tomorrow Raffa and I will travel to Oli and will have a nice and short night at theirs. Really looking forward to this but also fear comes to my heart when i think about getting up around 4 o'clock on Saturday morning for our trip to Paris. Really looking forward to this too and i've already trained my tongue: "Je m'appelle Roman! - Qu'est que ce? Je travaille pour l'ordinateur! Ca va? Bien! Bonschouuuhhrrr!!! - Nah, lets see, happy and funny days ahead with tons of people to meet - this is always the greatest part of such an event. I ain't got that much time to post at the moment so without much blabla some last impressions out of the jungle...

Raffa is going mad on a brand new Grey Knight.
Grey Knights will be a big topic in the next months i can promise that :)
Love Raffa's colour scheme but plan my own totally different - that will be intresting, i guess. Love the subtle cold/warm contrast Raffa did put in his True Metallic Metall, sweet Halleluja i am really looking forward to collect a small army again, together with Raffa - 24 Models, 12 for each of us. That is a plan we had. Work in Progress:

Raffa also finished 2 wonderful projects in my eyes. One will be seen soon as it was done for an online painting competition and is not allowed to be seen yet. The other one is the "Centaur" by Artefactory - lovely work by the italian Stallion i think...

Damn the paparazzi next door!!! Damn him!! :)

I do love painting but get way too less sleep the last couple of days because i am having so much fun while painting. Neverthless i finally did finish the "Ho! Ho! Ho! Pirates like to roll!". There will be bigger photos soon and also more angles, but i ain't got no time - need to finish the mad plan... one shot of the pirate... more soon:

And... the mad plan is still active. I want to finish that cow til tomorrow. Here goes a little impressions series on what has happened... meanwhile the time is running out :)

Still work in Progress - many plans to be executed til ... oO - soon and fast!!... So i am out and only have to pack one miniature for Paris - the Hombre Toro, when finished. More straight out of the jungle when we are back... see you there or miss you there, we will have a report with us when we are back in the bamboo mountains...
