Veloce has a very special book on the way this year! Driven by Desire - The Desir� Wilson story (published this summer), and is planned to be launched at this years Goodwood Revival. Watch this space for further updates on that!

Last week we were pleased to welcome Desir� and her husband Alan to Veloce House. We recorded a video interview with them before they headed off to the Goodwood Festival of Speed Press Day.

Lord March ran though the highlights of what to look forward to at this year�s Goodwood Festival of Speed (1-3 July), Moving Motor Show (30 June) and Revival (16-18 September), supported by a host of motor sport stars, including Formula One drivers Mika Hakkinen, Jochen Mass, Desir� Wilson and Bruno Senna, motorcycle competitors Guy Martin, James Haydon and Paul Smart, rally stars Andreas Mikkleson, Jimmy McRae and Russell Brooks, and circuit racer legends Paul Radisich, Richard Attwood and Anthony Reid. In addition, golfer Sir Nick Faldo, TV chef James Martin, comedian Ross Noble and model Yasmin le Bon with her daughter Amber on hand.

The 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed was launched yesterday with Jaguar playing a key role as the event celebrates the 50th anniversary of the iconic E-type.

Present at the launch were Yasmin Le Bon with her daughter and fellow model, Amber, who posed alongside arguably the most famous E-type of all � one of two cars to have made an epic, high-speed journey from Coventry to Geneva in March 1961 at the behest of Sir William Lyons. The car, a prototype Series One E-type roadster carrying the registration '77 RW', was delivered by Norman Dewis, Chief Test Driver at the time.

Norman's modern day successor, Mike Cross, Chief Engineer, Vehicle Integrity, at the wheel of the new Jaguar XKR-S, marked the event in style with a series of dramatic demonstration runs up the notorious Goodwood hill.

Joining Mike in taking on the hill was ex-Le Mans and BTCC racer Anthony Reid driving an XFR � his enthusiastic driving style won him the TAG Heuer 'Most Spirited Getaway' award.

The 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed will see Jaguar take centre stage with a dramatic sculpture being commissioned for the lawn in front of Goodwood House. Enthusiasts will be able to view an array of Jaguars from the past, present and a little way into the future with the XK120, and examples of the C-, D- and, of course, E-type taking part in demonstration runs in front of the crowds.

The Festival will start on Thursday 30 June with the Moving Motor Show � a chance for visitors to experience the latest Jaguar road cars and even get behind and take on the Goodwood hill.

JAGUAR CARS TO CELEBRATE 50 YEARS OF ITS ICONIC E-TYPE AT THE GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED AND REVIVAL

Jaguar Cars will be officially celebrating two significant anniversaries at Goodwood�s popular annual motor sport events this year, with 50 years of Britain�s best-loved sports car - the legendary Jaguar E-Type � being honoured at both the 2011 Festival of Speed (1-3 July) and Goodwood Revival (16-18 September), as well as 60 years since the Coventry marque first triumphed in the gruelling Le Mans 24 Hour endurance race.

Unveiled exactly 50 years ago at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, the E-Type quickly became the epitome of 1960s cool, as well as establishing an enviable record on the racing circuits of the world, including Goodwood. At the Festival of Speed this summer, the E-Type�s 50th birthday will be marked with an original and highly impactful �Central Feature� installation as a tribute to this incomparable motoring icon.

As well as the Central Feature � once more created by Gerry Judah, who has designed every memorable Festival display since 1997 � E-Types will be much in evidence at the 19th Festival of Speed. A class in the world-renowned Cartier �Style et Luxe� concours d�elegance will be dedicated to variants of Jaguar�s most famous model, while the Goodwood Hill will see examples of each notable racing E-Type.

Additionally, the 60th anniversary of Jaguar�s first Le Mans win will be celebrated with a class of the marque�s 24 Hours challengers. As well as the C-Types and D-Types which claimed five victories in the 1950s, Jaguar�s triumphant return to la Sarthe in the 1980s with the XJR series will also be represented, alongside examples of every other Jaguar model to compete at the 24 hour race.

Jaguar E-Types will also have a strong presence at this year�s Goodwood Revival. Saturday�s feature race at the Revival - the Fordwater Trophy - will be a 45-minute two-driver race for E-Types only. In honour of this, the official 2011 Goodwood Revival poster depicts the famous �4 WPD� Noddy Coombs lightweight development E-Type racing at Goodwood.

Jaguar has a long and impressive history at Goodwood. An SS100 won the very first post-War public motor race at the West Sussex circuit in September 1948, and the marque went on to enjoy great success with sports, GT and saloon cars during Goodwood�s active years from 1948 to 1966. It is testament to this special relationship that the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival are the only UK-based motor sport events officially recognised and supported by Jaguar Cars.

Commenting on this announcement, Lord March says: �I am delighted that we are able to honour Jaguar�s sporting heritage and the 50th anniversary of the E-Type in particular, at Goodwood this year. Goodwood and Jaguar have always enjoyed a very close relationship, and it is entirely fitting that they should choose to celebrate these two very special anniversaries with us.�

JAGUAR CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF E-TYPE

This year marks the 50th anniversary of one of the most famous and desirable cars in automotive history - the Jaguar E-Type.

Jaguar will be celebrating this special anniversary year at high-profile motoring events throughout 2011.

The company will mark the anniversary at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show and go on to celebrate at Goodwood�s Revival and Festival of Speed, the Pebble Beach Concours d�Elegance, the Nurburgring Old Timer Grand Prix and a host of Jaguar customer, dealer and lifestyle events worldwide.

When it was launched in 1961, the appeal of E-Type transcended the automotive world. Such is the inherent rightness of its proportions, stance and purity of line, that it is a permanent exhibit in New York.

GOODWOOD CONFIRMS 2011 DATES AND ANNOUNCES FESTIVAL OF SPEED THEME

Further to the recent announcement of provisional dates for Goodwood�s ever-popular motoring events, Lord March can now confirm the finalised dates for 2011. The Moving Motor Show will be held on 30 June, the Festival of Speed from 1-3 July, and the Goodwood Revival from 16-18 September.

The theme for the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed, from 1 to 3 July, will be �Racing Revolutions � Quantum leaps that shaped motor sport�, celebrating the ceaseless quest for increased power; greater efficiency; more speed.

From motor racing�s pioneering early days, engineering ingenuity has been the irresistible force behind the sport�s inexorable rise, with designers constantly pushing technical boundaries in search of �the unfair advantage�.

For example, in 2011 it will be 75 Years since Auto Union won the European Championship with a ground-breaking rear-engined car; 60 years since increased economy helped the normally-aspirated Ferraris vanquish the supercharged Alfa Romeos; 30 years since the dawn of rallying�s four-wheel-drive age; 25 years since turbocharged engines ruled the roost in F1; and 20 years since a rotary-engined Mazda took the chequered flag at Le Mans. It is therefore especially fitting to celebrate the innovations � both giant strides and iterative evolutions; masterstrokes and blind alleys � that have seen the racing automobile develop from crude behemoth to space-age projectile.

Alongside this central theme, the 2011 Festival of Speed will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500, with a stunning gathering of cars and drivers that have written the history of �The Greatest Spectacle in Racing�. It will also be 60 years since the C-type scored the first of Jaguar�s seven Le Mans victories, and the iconic British marque�s illustrious racing heritage will be honoured at Goodwood.

Jaguar will be much in evidence at the 2011 Festival, as the 50th anniversary of the E-Type � the ultimate personification of 1960s style, and one of the most admired car designs of all time � is marked in true Goodwood fashion. The E-Type will also be in the spotlight during the Revival from 16-18 September, with a spectacular one-make race.

The Festival of Speed will also feature a glittering array of cars and motorcycles from a huge variety of disciplines, further enhancing the Goodwood event�s reputation as the world�s greatest celebration of motor racing history and culture. Tackling the famous 1.16 mile Goodwood hillclimb will be everything from early Grand Prix and endurance machines, to off-road and contemporary racers and racing motorcycles.

Complementing the overall Festival of Speed theme will be a host of other attractions at the world�s greatest celebration of motoring. Aside from getting close to the action-packed hillclimb and paddocks, Festival-goers will be able to admire some of the most stylish vehicles ever designed at the Cartier �Style et Luxe� concours d�elegance, see and potentially try the very latest road cars at the Moving Motor Show exhibition, glimpse into the future of transportation at FoS-TECH, see many of motor sport�s famous faces up close, swoon at the mouth-watering display of supercars, witness the exciting sideways action on the Forest Rally Stage, and become a part of the action at the off-road activity fields and Junior Festival of Speed.

Goodwood Festival of Speed founder Lord March says: �I am really looking forward to having so many great cars and drivers here at the Festival of Speed to celebrate our 2011 �Racing Revolutions� theme. For me it is always magical to see so many of the world�s greatest drivers, riders and machines in action.� He adds, �At the Revival, the E-Type-only race and special track display honouring 100 years since Fangio�s birth also promise to be truly special.�

As in previous years, admission to both Goodwood motor sport events will be strictly by advance ticket only, with 2011 tickets now on sale. All orders placed before January 2011 will benefit from a VAT saving of 2.5 per cent.

New for 2011, young adults aged between 13 and 18 can now purchase Festival of Speed and/or Revival tickets for half the full adult price. Previously all visitors aged 13 or over would have been charged at full price. Children of 12 years or under remain free of charge, as does all car parking.

VELOCE AT GOODWOOD REVIVAL 2010

So another great Goodwood Revival Meeting draws to a close. This year we were very fortunate to grab some interviews with some legendary drivers.

We talked to Sir Stirling Moss OBE about forthcoming Veloce book Harnessing Horsepower � The Pat Moss Carlsson story.

Also recorded a video interview with Sir Jackie Stewart OBE about Veloce book Tales from the Toolbox � A collection of behind-the-scenes tales from Grand Prix mechanics which he provided the foreword for.

We also interviewed Desir� Wilson. Desir� became the only woman to win an F1 race of any kind when she won at Brands Hatch in the short-lived British Aurora F1 series in 1980.

Chas Parker, author of Veloce book Endurance Racing at Silverstone in the 1970s & 1980s presents Jochen Mass with a copy at the Revival where he was racing. Mass is associated with long distance races at Silverstone over the years and features in the book.

GOODWOOD CONFIRMS OVER 65 STAR DRIVERS AND RIDERS COMPETING AT THE 2010 REVIVAL

Well-known faces from most motor sport disciplines will be in action at this year�s Goodwood Revival, including Formula One stars, rally winners, endurance racing champions, tin top tearaways and top bikers; often competing in the most unlikely of machines.

As an example, current Renault Formula One driver Vitaly Petrov will be racing an ex-KGB GAZ Volga M21 from 1958, and ex-F1 star and ten-time Grand Prix winner Gerhard Berger will be riding a motorcycle in the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy, as well as campaigning a lightweight Jaguar E-Type in the Royal Automobile Club TT Celebration race.

Other ex-Grand Prix stars driving wheel-to-wheel at Goodwood will include popular F1 TV presenter Martin Brundle (driving a Ferrari 250 GTO and Austin A35 � two cars which epitomise the glorious variety of machines competing at the Revival), veteran F1 driver Jackie Oliver (Jaguar E-Type and Ford Anglia 100E), and the only female driver ever to win an F1 race � Desire Wilson (Jaguar E-Type, Austin A40 and unique Formula Junior Nota).

Endurance and touring car stars competing are set to include Emanuele Pirro, Derek Bell, Vern Schuppan, Jim Richards, John Cleland, and eight-time Le Mans winner and Revival first-timer Tom Kristensen, whilst Scandinavian rally legends Rauno Aaltonen and James Haugland are sure to entertain the Revival spectators.

Motorcycling heroes will include Revival regular Wayne Gardner, TT-winners Stuart Graham, Charlie Williams and Ian Simpson, and former MotoGP rider Jeremy McWilliams. Goodwood stalwarts Sir Stirling Moss, Sir Jackie Stewart, Jochen Mass, Brian Redman and Barry �Whizzo� Williams will also be in attendance, with a special tribute being paid to John Surtees, who remains the only World Champion on two and four wheels.

�GRAND TOURING GREATS� TO STAR IN THE EARLS COURT MOTOR SHOW AT THE GOODWOOD REVIVAL

Following the growing popularity of the annual Earls Court Motor Show at the Goodwood Revival, this key attraction will once again add an exciting element to the annual Revival meeting, the world�s most authentic historic motor race meeting, being held in just four week�s time, from 17-19 September.

The Earls Court Motor Show takes its inspiration from the celebrated London Motor Shows of the 1950s and 60s, with an Art Deco frontage reminiscent of the glory days of exhibitions of the past. This spacious area will give the expected 130,000 Goodwood Revival visitors an insight into how the motoring of tomorrow might look from a pre-1966 perspective, with a display of �futuristic� late 20th and early 21st century cars.

Externally, Earls Court looks like the entrance to a 1950s Motor Show, promising to display �cars of the future� inside. As no post-1966 vehicles are ordinarily allowed on site during the Goodwood Revival, the Earls Court Motor Show enables the event to break out of its �period� timeframe and display post-1966 vehicles. The effect is like walking into a Tardis, offering other-worldly futuristic new cars to see, right up to and including manufacturers� latest products.

Each vehicle manufacturer�s stand is presented in the style of a traditional Motor Show of the 1950s or 1960s. As with the rest of the Revival, the overall display is not set in a specific timeframe, but rather at some unidentified point prior to 1966. Manufacturer displays are therefore expected to include contemporary cars of the 1950s or 1960s, as well as some �concept� cars showing each company�s vision of what production cars might look like in the early 21st Century. Car manufacturers confirmed to be exhibiting at this �motor show of the future� include Maserati, Jaguar, BMW, Nissan and Rolls-Royce.

In addition to the manufacturers� stands, there will be a central �concours d�elegance� exhibition. This display will commemorate �Grand Touring Greats�, featuring around 25 elegant GT cars, from the 1950s right through to the present day. Expect to see important GT cars such as the influential Lancia Aurelia B20 Coupe, Bentley Continental R, Facel Vega HK500, Gordon Keeble and Ferrari 365 GTB/4 �Daytona.�

Goodwood�s historic links with Earls Court are very strong. The famous London Earls Court exhibition site was built on land once owned by the Duke of Richmond; the Earl in the name referring to the Earl of March, from whom the present 10th Duke of Richmond, and his son Lord March, are directly descended.

GOODWOOD TO PAY TRIBUTE TO TWO GREAT BRITISH MOTOR RACING LEGENDS AT THE 2010 REVIVAL

In just seven week�s time Goodwood will be marking the important contribution that two British legends have made to the sport of motor racing over the decades when it pays tribute to multiple World Champion John Surtees and the celebrated British Racing Motors (BRM) marque at the 2010 Goodwood Revival (17-19 September).

The Goodwood Motor Circuit has played a significant role in the careers of both racing driver John Surtees and BRM (for which Surtees drove), so it is entirely fitting that their achievements are celebrated with special track parades at the 2010 Revival to mark two important anniversaries.

50 Years Since John Surtees� First Car Race

Already a multiple World Champion on two wheels, it was 50 years ago this year, in March 1960, that John Surtees began his switch to four wheels, entering a Formula Junior race at Goodwood and finishing a close second to Jim Clark.

Within a matter of months, Surtees had scored his first pole position and podium finish in Formula One, and in 1964 he became F1 World Champion. His achievement in winning World Championships on both two wheels and four remains unmatched to this day. Add victory in the inaugural CanAm championship in 1966, and a spell as a team owner, and his is a career whose achievements will perhaps forever remain unique.

At the 2010 Revival Goodwood will pay tribute to John Surtees, with a gathering of the landmark cars and bikes that shaped his unparalleled career, as well a number of drivers and riders that he competed with and against.

Amongst the 25+ ex-Surtees cars and motorcycles forming part of an impressive grid will be his 1949 Vincent Black Shadow, 1952 Comet 500, 1960 Cooper-BMC T52, 1964 Ferrari 158 and 1973 Surtees-Hart TS15.

60 Years Since BRM�s First Race Victory

On September 30th 1950, the fledgling British Racing Motors (BRM) scored its very first victory, here at Goodwood, when Reg Parnell triumphed in the Woodcote Cup. From then until 1977, when its doors closed permanently, BRM enjoyed a career which, perhaps more than any manufacturer before or since, was epitomised by glorious highs (17 Grand Prix victories and both World Championships in 1962) and ignominious lows (the calamitous failure of the much-heralded V16, and the team�s eventual demise), but which never failed to capture the public�s imagination.

This year�s Revival celebrates 60 years since that first win at Goodwood, with the world�s largest ever gathering of BRM cars. With up to 40 of the known 53 BRMs still in existence on the grid at Goodwood, highlights will include the infamous BRM V16 MK 1 of 1950, the 1953 V16 P30 MK 2, Type 25, P48, P261, P153 and the final P207 of 1977.

LOTUS 38: THE STAR OF GOODWOOD FOS 2010

One of the highlights of Goodwood Festival of Speed 2010 had to be the historic Indy 500 winning Lotus-Ford 38/1. The car's victory in 1965, with Jim Clark at the wheel, was the first ever by a rear-engine chassis.

In 1965 Team Lotus brought in the legendary Wood Brothers from NASCAR to speed up its pit work at Indianapolis. The Lotus 38 that they assisted to Victory Lane languished in the Henry Ford Museum at Greenfield Village for decades before being returned to the UK to be restored by Classic Team Lotus. It was driven in public, for the first time since its win, at this years Goodwood Festival of Speed.

A history of the British influence on the Indianapolis 500, including not only the drivers and cars, but the many others � mechanics, designers, and officials � who have been involved. 3,500 BHP MINI � FROM CUMMINS! GOODWOOD�S ODDEST EXHIBIT UNVEILED

Visitors to this week�s Goodwood Festival of Speed will have some amazing machinery on which to feast their eyes but none more unusual than the exhibit which greets them on the stand of Cummins, the world�s largest independent maker of diesel engines.

The Cummins centrepiece emerged after a previous show when the company showed off its largest engine (and the largest diesel engine made in the UK). The QSK78 engine weighs in at over 11 tonnes and some wag asked if it could be fitted to his Mini.

Steve Nendick, Cummins� Communications Director - Europe, Middle East, Africa and CIS, takes up the story: �We never like to let a challenge go by unanswered so we got to thinking maybe we could fit the QSK78 into an original Austin Mini. It proved to be a bit tricky to fit under the bonnet but our engineers came up with a more creative solution. �We�re certain that the Goodwood crowd will have difficulty believing what they are seeing�, he said.

The QSK78, which is used to power mining industry dump trucks capable of carrying 360 tonnes, is a V18 monster with a capacity of 78 litres and uses no less than 12 turbochargers to develop 3,500 bhp and getting on for 14,000 Nm of torque (the original Mini made do with just 80!).

Visitors should go to Stand 16 and be prepared to be amazed!

FERRARI CELEBRATES THE GOODWOOD FOS WITH THE FERRARI CALIFORNIA, 458 ITALIA, 599 GTO AND THE 2009 F1 CAR

Two of Ferrari�s latest supercars will be making their UK public debuts at this year�s Goodwood Festival of Speed: the beautifully-styled and innovative mid-engined 458 Italia and a technologically-advanced V12 flagship which carries one of the most evocative name badges in automotive history, the 599 GTO. Also appearing in the Sunday Times Supercar Run will be a very special Ferrari California with a unique �bi-colore� roof and a personalised interior, while the Scuderia Ferrari will be represented by the 2009 F1 car which will be driven by Marc Gene throughout the weekend.

The Ferrari 458 Italia represents a genuine evolution of Maranello�s mid-rear engined V8 sports cars and it has won a host of international awards, including BBC Top Gear�s �Supercar of the Year� and even more coveted �Car of the Year�, GQ Magazine�s �Supercar of the Year� and MSN Cars UK�s �Supercar of the Year�.

The Ferrari 458 Italia introduces a number of innovative technologies, such as the reduction of internal friction losses inside the engine as well as significant aerodynamics development on the exterior design, including the aeroelastic winglets at the front that generate downforce and, as speed rises, deform to reduce the section of the radiator inlets and cut drag.

The new 4,499 cc V8 engine is a veritable powerhouse, punching out 570hp, and, combined with the 7-speed F1 dual-clutch gearbox and a dry weight of just 1380 kg, the 458 Italia boasts a weight-power ratio of 2.42 kg (a power-weight ratio of 413hp per ton), and can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in under 3.4 seconds and hit a maximum speed of over 325 km/h.

The Ferrari 599 GTO recreates the evocative �GTO� moniker which previously appeared on two of the Prancing Horse�s most iconic supercars, the race-bred 250 GTO and the 288 GTO which defined the term �supercar�. The 599 GTO is an extreme V12 berlinetta which has been designed to fulfil a specific performance-oriented brief and is the company�s fastest ever road car. It is an exclusive limited edition special which is based on the 599XX, the advanced experimental track car, and is reserved for just 599 clients who seek the maximum expression of high-performance driving. The 599 GTO benefits directly from the technological transfer from racing and set a record lap time at Fiorano in 1�24�.

The Fiorano lap time provides just one indication of the potential of this car. Just as significant are the technical specifications � 670hp in a 1495kg car represents a weight-to-power ratio of just 2.23 kg/hp, and ensures a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 3.35� as well as a top speed of over 335 km/h.

The Ferrari California is the Prancing Horse�s first front-engined V8 which has been classically styled to echo one of the greatest designs from Ferrari�s history, the 250 GT California. The new California, however, is packed with the latest technology and includes Ferrari�s first dual-clutch 7-speed gearbox, a direct injection 4.3 V8 engine with 460hp, the latest F1-Trac traction control system, a new multi-link rear suspension, and, of course, an innovative retractable folding hardtop that opens or closes in only 14 seconds. The California has already received the critical acclaim of the automotive press around the world, with Top Gear claiming it is a �proper God�s honest, marrow-deep Ferrari�, and Autocar describing it as �absolutely bloody marvellous!�

The particular Ferrari California on display at Goodwood features a �bi-colore� roof, with the car painted in Argento Nurburgring (metallic silver) and the roof and A-pillar in Nero (black) to echo the tradition of bi-colore berlinettas of the 1950s and 1960s. The car on display in the Supercar Paddock also features several items from the Genuine Ferrari Accessories range, such as forged 20� matt black wheels with titanium wheel bolts, as well a host of �extra-campionaro� factory-fit options from the Carrozzeria Scaglietti Personalisation Programme such as diamond-stitching on the rear seats and Cavallino stitching on headrests in Nero.

Ferrari is also represented by the Scuderia Ferrari team who will be demonstrating the 2009 F1 car, driven by Marc Gen�, throughout the weekend. Additional fine examples of Ferrari�s illustrious racing heritage can also be seen in the Cathedral Paddock, with the following privately-owned cars entered in this year�s event:

ALVIS ANNOUNCES CONTINUATION SERIES OF ITS GREATEST PRE-WAR MODEL

21st Century future for legendary Alvis model


The Alvis Car Company will be using the Goodwood Festival of Speed next month to announce details of a unique project to re-introduce a renowned1930�s Alvis model using the original technical drawings, allied to the latest CAD/CAM technology.

Red Triangle, the well-established Alvis service company, which owns the Alvis cars brand and trademarks, has evidence from the original Alvis company board minutes that 77 of the chassis that were officially sanctioned for production were never fulfilled because car production had to be suspended in 1940. The newly formed Alvis Car Company will announce details of a continuation series of these cars at Goodwood and will be displaying on their stand a brand new 4.3 Litre chassis and engine. These are the first steps towards the reintroduction of the famous Alvis 4.3 Litre model, 71 years after the last 4.3 Litre Alvis was produced.

The 4.3 Litre Alvis was the fastest non-supercharged production car of its day, and the continuation series will live up to that heritage. Manufactured from the original drawings, the 4.3 Litre Alvis in-line six cylinder engine will be faithful to the 1936 design, in maintaining all its period character and quality, yet by utilising modern technology it will be emission compliant. Moreover, by using modern materials, fuel injection and engine management, this powerplant will deliver even more horsepower.

�This is part of our overall business plan,� said Alan Stote, Red Triangle and Alvis Car Company proprietor: �to maintain service to existing Alvis owners but also to reintroduce selected authentic Alvis models in line with the vision of the Alvis Board all those years ago. Visitors to Goodwood will be able to see the first stages of that plan.�

FORMULA ONE IS COMING HOME AT THE GOODWOOD FESTIVAL OF SPEED

In just under two weeks, the calm tranquility of the picturesque Goodwood Park will be shattered as the 2010 Festival of Speed gets underway. From 2-4 July more than 90 stars drivers and riders, and over 350 significant competition vehicles, will be in action at the world�s greatest celebration of motoring culture. A key attraction will be the contemporary Formula 1 teams and drivers, as well as a mouth-watering display of the greatest F1 cars from the past 60 years of the F1 World Championship.

Goodwood�s unique ability to attract the top works Formula 1 teams is a key strength of the Festival of Speed � nowhere else in the world can you get so close to the latest and greatest F1 cars and drivers. This year six F1 teams have confirmed their attendance at the Festival, just one week ahead of their appearance at the British Grand Prix.

Scuderia Ferrari � the incomparable Italian marque will be at the Festival once more, their blood red cars forming a central part of this year�s �Viva Veloce!� celebration.
McLaren-Mercedes � the MP4-23 will be in action all weekend, with 2008 and 2009 World Champions Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button at the controls. They will also both be driving the ex-Alain Prost championship winning 1986 McLaren-TAG MP4/2C.
Mercedes GP � one the newest F1 teams in the pit lane will mark its return to full works competition after a 55-year absence with an appearance at the Festival of Speed, with Nico Rosberg in action, as well as Goodwood hillclimb speed record holder Nick Heidfeld.
Red Bull � after setting the pace through the early part of the 2010 F1 season, Red Bull are amongst the favourites this year, and their car is sure to be a Festival highlight, especially with Mark Webber at the wheel. Red Bull�s engineering genius Adrian Newey will also be appearing in the 2009 Red Bull-Renault RB5.
Lotus-Cosworth � after a long absence in F1, Lotus makes a welcome return and will be at Goodwood with drivers Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen.
Williams-Cosworth � the latest FW32, which will appear at the Festival, renews Williams� relationship with Cosworth, with whom it won four World Titles in the 1980s.
The 60th anniversary of the Formula One World Championship will be celebrated at Goodwood with paddocks full of important Grand Prix cars from the last six decades. Cars from the 1950s will include the championship-winning Alfa Romeo Tipo 159 �Alfetta�, Mercedes-Benz W196, Vanwall, and BRM�s first winner, the Type 25. Highlights from the 1960s include the Cooper-Climax T53 �lowline�, Lotus-BRM 33, Lotus-Cosworth 49 and Matra-Cosworth MS80.

Be-winged Grand Prix cars of the 1970s include the Lotus-Cosworth 72E, due to be driven by Emerson Fittipaldi and Heikki Kovalainen and the legendary six-wheeled Tyrrell-Cosworth P34. Highlights from the ground-effect and turbo Grand Prix eras will include the Lotus-Cosworth 79, Williams-Cosworth FW08 � the last car to win the World Championship powered by a Ford-Cosworth DFV engine, and due to be driven by Karun Chandhok at Goodwood, plus the Toleman-Hart T183B in which Ayrton Senna mad his GP debut.

Post-Turbo Grand Prix car will include the Benetton-Ford B192, Bruno Senna at the wheel of his uncle Ayrton�s 1993 McLaren-Cosworth MP4/8, the 1994 Lotus-Mugen 109, 1996 Williams-Renault FW18 and Jordon-Ford EJ13.

Look out in the paddock too for familiar Formula 1 faces, including as Sir Stirling Moss, Sir Jackie Stewart, Damon Hill, Christian Horner and Murray Walker.

FORD'S WORLD CUP WINNER V FOCUS RS500

Forty years of Ford motorsport success will be represented when old meets new at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.


Leading the charge will be the victorious Ford Escort driven by Hannu Mikkola and Gunnar Palm in the 1970 London� Mexico rally. Starting from Wembley Stadium, where England won the 1966 World Cup, the race finished 16,000 gruelling miles later in Mexico City, host to the 1970 World Cup.

Now, as the England soccer team seeks to repeat 1966, Ford will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Escort's triumph by taking on the Festival's challenging 1.16 mile hill climb. The Escorts' success in 1970, taking 1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 8th places, led directly to Ford launching the highly successful and iconic Ford Escort Mexico.

Demonstrating the continued link between production vehicles and motorsport cars will be the new, limited-edition Ford Focus RS500. With a production run of just 500 examples across Europe, the high performance Focus RS500 features a 350PS upgraded engine and hand-applied matt black foil finish, and is a timely reminder of Ford's motorsport record.

In May, the Focus WRC of Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila won Rally New Zealand providing the company with its 75th win and making Ford the most successful manufacturer in the history of FIA World Rally Championship.

Gerard Quinn, Ford's motorsport manager, said: "There is a direct customer benefit that results from motorsport development helping to advance production car engineering. This was evident from the early days of the Ford Escort and with the Focus WRC now in its final season it is appropriate that the lessons learnt have helped to create a new icon for the road in the shape of the Focus RS500."

Both the Escort and Focus RS500 will be driven by guest drivers throughout the Goodwood Festival of Speed taking place on 2 - 4 July 2010.

GOODWOOD CONFIRMS OVER 20 WORLD CHAMPIONS AND 80 DRIVERS AND RIDERS APPEARING AT THE 2010 FESTIVAL OF SPEED

With just over six weeks still to go until the 2010 Festival of Speed blasts into life (2-4 July), Goodwood can already confirm more than 80 star drivers and riders will be present at the world�s largest celebration of motoring culture, including over 20 World Champions who between them have collected more than 70 championship titles.

Reigning Formula One World Champion Jenson Button will be in action up the famous Goodwood hillclimb, as will his McLaren team mate and 2008 World Champion Lewis Hamilton. Joining the McLaren drivers will be fellow 2010 season F1 competitors Mark Webber behind the wheel of his Red Bull, Nico Rosberg in action in his Mercedes, and Bruno Senna, driving his uncle Ayrton�s iconic McLaren MP4/8.

Past F1 champions and Grand Prix winners present at the Festival of Speed are set to include Emerson Fittipaldi, Sir Jackie Stewart, Mika Hakkinen, John Surtees, Sir Stirling Moss, Jochen Mass and Patrick Tambay. Joining these confirmed drivers at Goodwood will be a roll-call of other motor sport stars that reads like a who�s who of motor racing.


From the world of rallying, Festival first-timer Miki Biasion will be reunited with a Lancia Delta; American �Gymkhana� video and current WRC star Ken Block will be going wild in his Ford: 2009 IRS Champion Kris Meeke will be going sideways in his Peugeot; as will IRC rival Guy Wilks in his Skoda. Many other rallying greats will be reacquainted with the cars that made them famous, including Messrs Rauno Aaltonen, Jimmy McRae, Russell Brookes, Bj?rn Waldeg?rd and Markko Martin.

Motorcycling heroes will include Giacomo Agostini, Kevin Schwantz, Chaz Davies, Neil Hodgson and Trevor Nation, plus many others, including 12-time Trials Champion and Goodwood legend Dougie Lampkin. Motor racing legends from across the Pond will include double Daytona 500 winner and NASCAR stalwart Michael Waltrip and three-time Indy 500 victor Bobby Unser.
