DID BRIGHTON ROCK BRING BACK MEMORIES?
If all those clips airing on TV News lately from the remake of Brighton Rock, which premiered in Brighton last Wednesday night, have been bringing back memories and giving you ideas about the freedom of iconic two-wheeled motoring, this new book from Veloce could be just what you're looking for and at ?9.99 it won't break the bank, but could prevent you from making a potentially expensive mistake
Vespa Scooters - Classic 2-stroke models 1960-2008
By Mark Paxton
Stop! Dont let Brighton Rock tempt you into buying a classic Vespa without buying this book first! Having this book in your pocket is just like having a real marque expert by your side. Learn how to spot a bad scooter quickly and how to assess a promising one like a professional. Get the right classic Vespa at the right price!
The two stroke Vespa is rightly regarded as an iconic scooter. Its initial purpose was to provide low cost transportation to the masses in the 1950s, but it evolved through the vibrant 60s to became a symbol of the burgeoning youth culture, and on into the 90s when it became firmly entrenched as an Italian icon.
The history of this phenomenon has been well documented, as has the subculture that surrounds it, but there has been no previous attempt to provide a guide to buying one of these classic scooters. This new book from Veloce Publishing, which is for sale now in all good bookshops or direct from www.velocebooks.com, will help ensure that you avoid the main pitfalls and end up with your very own slice of La Dolce Vita on the driveway. Scooters look set to be the 'must have' vehicles of 2011.

JAGUAR XJ220 - THE INSIDE STORY OUT NOW!
Pleased to announce the much-anticipated Jaguar XJ220 The Inside Story by Mike Moreton is now in print and available to buy. To mark the occasion, Mike suggested we share this video of John Nielsen breaking the unofficial lap record for sports cars round the old circuit at the Nrburgring in 1991. This event, a key milestone in the whole XJ220 Project is therefore directly relevant to the book.
The Jaguar XJ220, the fastest, most exciting and most expensive road-going Jaguar ever built, evolved from Jim Randles sensuously-shaped 1988 UK Motor Show concept car.
Named for its targeted top speed, the XJ220 was developed between 1989 and 1994. Just 350 limited edition cars were to have been built by JaguarSport, the Jaguar/Tom Walkinshaw TWR joint venture. Going on sale each with a 360,000 price tag and requiring a 50,000 non-returnable deposit from each purchaser, the XJ220 attracted celebrities, speculators, and the mega-wealthy. It was over-subscribed four times in just one day!
This inside story is an historically accurate account of the project from the Project Manager himself. Having recruited a talented team from motor sport and production car industries, a factory was developed in Bloxham, Oxfordshire. Working closely with Jaguar Design, TWR Group companies and specialist suppliers, the XJ220 team re-designed, built, tested, manufactured and marketed Jaguar?s ultimate road car.
Featuring over 200 photographs, many previously unpublished, showing the concept and production cars in all stages of development, with glamour shots and historical photos of Jaguar sports/racing cars, this book is a must for Jaguar enthusiasts. More info.

A unique account of a radical era in automotive design. The Art Deco movement influenced design and marketing in many different industries in the 1930s, and the British motor industry was no exception.
The book is divided into two parts: the first explains and illustrates the Art Deco styling elements that link these streamlined car designs, describing their development, their commonality, and how aeronautical names were used, and is liberally illustrated with contemporary images. The second part goes on to portray British streamlined production cars made between 1933 and 1936, illustrated with colour photographs of surviving cars. More info.

THE BRITISH AT INDIANAPOLIS
It was an eventful weekend for the Brits at the 2010 Indianapolis 500. With four British drivers finishing in the top seven of the final standings, including winner for the second time, Dario Franchitti. Dario Franchitti now becomes the 17th driver to win Indy 500 more than once, with his second official win, the first coming in 2007. Dario hails from Bathgate, West Lothian Scotland but currently resides in Tennessee. Second place was taken by Dan Wheldon, followed in third by Alex Lloyd.
We're delighted to announce that Dario has written the foreword for forthcoming Veloce book The British at Indianapolis by Ian Wagstaff.A history of the British influence on the Indianapolis 500, including not only the drivers and cars, but the many others mechanics, designers, and officials who have been involved. The story is set out in a series of stand-alone chapters, with a wide variety of informative sidebars, and goes back 100 years to the early days of the race, through the British-led, rear-engined revolution of the 1960s to the present day. More info.
The fantastic achievement of British drivers at this year's Indy 500 was somewhat overshadowed in the media by Mike Conway's spectacular crash. All at Veloce wish Mike a speedy recovery.
