NISSAN GT-R REVS INTO POLE POSITION
Web's largest motoring poll puts new Japanese sports car in top place.
British motoring enthusiasts have voted Japanese car maker Nissan's brutally powerful GT-R as winner of MSN Cars Car of the Year 2009', with the four-wheel drive sportscar capturing almost a third (29%) of the record 80,000 votes cast on a poll on MSN Cars (msn.co.uk/cars).
The critically-acclaimed Nissan GT-R cruised ahead of its challengers as it almost trebled the number of votes of its nearest competitor, the British-built Jaguar XF (12%). Other familiar entries in the MSN Car of the Year poll include the ever popular - but new generation - Ford Fiesta (6%) in 8th place.
Tom Evans, Content Manager of MSN Cars, commented:
"Congratulations to Nissan and its revolutionary GT-R for capturing the imagination of the British motoring public. Not only does the GT-R boast impressive specs and enough sheer motoring muscle to outrun its rivals, but the GT-R also boasts one of the most eye-catching, contemporary designs in the supercar fraternity - and all at a bargain price that is entirely in keeping with these straightened times."
He added:
"Britain's passion and drive for the world's most well-crafted supercars continues, even during times of economic hardship. This is clearly demonstrated as over 80,000 people voted for their top motors, more than doubling the number of votes of last year's poll."

100 TIPS TO TRANSFORM YOUR RALLY CAR!
-PRESS RELEASE-
How to Build a Successful Low-Cost Rally Car, a new book by motoring journalist Philip Young aims to provide simple, cost-effective and reliable tips to guarantee reaching the finishing line and more importantly, get results!
This book concentrates on preparing a car for the many forms of road-based rallies, including Historic Rallying, from weekend club events to the Classic Marathon, with useful preparation for long distance events like the Peking to Paris, road-rallies for modern cars, and the Budget Adventure events like the Mongol Rally and Plymouth to Dakar.
Published by Veloce at 16.99 containing 150 colour pictures; It concentrates on tips for reliability...items like waterproofing, ensuring the exhaust doesnt fall off, the radiator doesnt vibrate lose, engine mountings and the like are regular setbacks on all manner of events and this book gets back to basics, packed with workshop photographs. There is also an event guide, useful contacts, and chapters on personal preparation including staying healthy, coping with borders, and seeking sponsorship.
Philip Young is a former Fleet Street journalist who once helped to run the Daily Mail News Desk...he has written for The Observer, The Times, and The Guardian as well as the Daily Mail, edited two motoring magazines, and twice was awarded the Guild of Motoring Writers Motoring Journalist of the Year Award.
Generally credited with having kick-started the historic-rally movement with events like the Pirelli Classic Marathon, Monte Carlo Challenge and Peking to Paris, Philip Young has organised 65 major events and has seen how the same problems crop up time and time again that could have been prevented with some simple modifications in the garage before the start. He co-founded the Historic Rally Car Register in 1982, and more recently started up Endurance Rallying in Britain, events restricted to 1400cc cars with standard engines, such as the Lombard Rally.
Philip Young commented: "Hopefully the book goes some way to debunk the myth that rally preparation is about high cost and high technology - some of the modifications in the book are ordinary household items, from silicone bathroom sealer to wire coat hangers that cost zippo, but transform reliablility."
The 96-page book is available now from bookshops or from www.veloce.co.uk.
If you are driving a road-based rally, this book will help you get a result dont even fill in the entry form without it!

NISSAN ANNOUNCES NEW GT-R SPECV MODEL
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd today announced a new limited-production Nissan GT-R SpecV model, which goes on sale at specially selected Nissan dealers throughout Japan on February 2, 2009. The GT-R SpecV is targeted specifically at enthusiast drivers who desire race car-level performance in a street-legal vehicle.Developed around the multi-dimensional Nissan GT-R sports car, which was introduced just more than one year ago to universal global acclaim, the new SpecV model builds on the originals ultimate supercar that anyone can enjoy driving anywhere, at anytime philosophy taking it to an entirely new level of oneness between man and machine. The SpecV model includes unique body, interior and performance equipment and modifications, raising the GT-Rs unmatched performance to even higher levels.
The GT-R SpecVs new exterior features include a carbon fibre rear spoiler, a carbon fibre grille, and carbon fibre brake ducts. The SpecV is available exclusively in Ultimate Black Opal (RP) body colour. Inside, the SpecVs unique two-seat interior (non-SpecV GT-R models also include a two-place rear seat) offers special Recaro carbon fibre bucket seats, while carbon fibre insets embellish the rear centre storage box, instrument panel and other trim areas.Performance is enhanced with a new high gear boost control device, which momentarily increases boost of the engines twin turbochargers for greater torque in the intermediate-to-high speed ranges to provide a more powerful feeling of acceleration, while also allowing the engine to operate at a lower speed for improved fuel economy. Other modifications include a titanium-coated exhaust system and carbon-ceramic brakes that provide powerful stopping performance.
The GT-R SpecV is also equipped with lightweight, racing-style forged aluminium wheels that were developed for this model and have been sold by Nissan Motorsports International (NISMO) since September 2008. The lighter unsprung weight provided by the new wheels, together with the enhanced braking capability, an exclusive suspension and high-grip tyres, combine to deliver the SpecVs exceptional performance.

UPDATED NISSAN GT-R FOR EUROPE
As production of the European specification Nissan GT-R begins in its Tochigi plant in Japan this month, a raft of small but significant changes have been made to the car.
The GT-Rs hand-built 3.8-litre V6 twin-turbo engine has gained 5PS thanks to some fine tuning of its electronics, taking power output to 485PS, while torque remains unchanged at 588Nm. Additionally, Dunlop SP Sport 600 DSST tyres will be fitted as standard. The tyre was developed specifically for the GT-R and it combines grip and durability, as demonstrated during its time-attack lap of the Nurburgring, which yielded a time of 7 minutes 29 seconds. And, just to improve the ride performance even further a modification has been carried out to the suspension spring rate settings.
Another update sees the introduction of the Gun Metal grey coloured Rays seven-spoke alloy wheel design for the standard and Premium Edition GT-Rs, while the Black Edition will be fitted with the same design but, appropriately, in black. Additionally, customers can now choose a new pearl white called Storm as an exterior colour an eye-catching, deep white replacing the original pearl white which had a slightly darker shade.
To date, Nissan has taken in excess of 2500 customer orders in Europe with 1200 coming from the UK. Any new customer orders should expect delivery in mid 2010.

It contains an original and critical analysis of the GT-R models, and reveals positive and negative features of different systems of these cars. AS RECESSION HITS, MOTORISTS ADOPT POLICY OF D.I.Y
More motorists are keeping cars for longer, carrying out repairs themselves and buying car parts online as the credit crunch bites, according to a new report. Consequently, sales of car repair manuals and books have started to increase. Motorists are also choosing to buy more car parts online to save on costs, either fitting the parts themselves or paying a garage to if the job is beyond their ability, according to mail order specialists www.carparts-direct.co.uk, which reported a 28% increase on sales of parts against the same period last year. With the help of Veloce Speedpro manuals or Essential Buyer's Guides, motorists will be better prepared to carry out repairs on their vehicles.

New Look Jaguar XK

"Jaguar will showcase a new look for XK in celebration of 60 years of the iconic nameplate at this year's British International Motor Show. The new XK60* will take pride of place alongside representatives from the full Jaguar model range, each with a success story for 2008.
XK
In 1948, Jaguar created what would become one of the most famous automotive names in the world, as the all-new and highly advanced XK engine made its debut in the revered XK120 sports car. Now, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of that iconic car, Jaguar is launching a very special series of the current XK for the UK market the uniquely equipped and aptly named XK60, a car that pays homage to the legendary performance of its predecessors.
Complementing the XK60 on the stand will be the recently introduced XKR-S, a limited edition sports coupe in Ultimate Black designed to give an even more focused, high speed performance driving experience. Capable of 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds and with a maximum speed extended to a limited 174mph (280km/h), this is the fastest Jaguar since the XJ220 supercar. With just 50 available in the UK, every XKR-S is already spoken for."
